Thanksgiving in Fayetteville

For Thanksgiving we made a trip back down to Fayetteville to visit halmeoni. The weather wasn’t too bad so we headed downtown.

The Market House is an unusual combination town hall and town market building in the heart of Fayetteville, Cumberland County, North Carolina. Built in 1832, has an arcaded open ground level, and a meeting hall above, a form believed to be unique in the United States, but with precedents in England. It served both functions until the early 20th century, and was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1973. It now houses a museum on the upper level.

It’s amazing when you read what it says on Wikipedia about the Market House. It doesn’t seem to mention that this was where slaves were auctioned off to the highest bidder.

The area looks so different from when I grew up here. It simply wasn’t a place you wanted to hang around. Fayetteville has seriously cleaned up its downtown. It’s actually quite festive.

Why the brother have to be in chains?

Najwa just had to touch the water.

And then it was back to halmeoni’s house for Thanksgiving dinner.
