Spending Valentine’s in City of Brotherly Love

For Valentine’s weekend, the ladies and I went to Philadelphia to visit the city of brotherly love.

We checked out the LOVE sculpture seen over and over in movies based in Philly. We visited the Liberty Bell, which was smaller than I was expecting, Independence Hall [which was wrapped in scaffolding for renovations], South Street, Broad Street, JFK Plaza and we even went out to Cherry Hill, New Jersey where our homegirl Natalie took the time to come visit us and meet Najwa for the first time.

It was pretty windy so we kept finding places of refuge. And when you have tall buildings, you have wind tunnels. We stuck around the hotel for a moment until Nduku felt ready to experience Philadelphia in the winter.

Eventually we braved the weather and did you basic street walking, sightseeing thing.

Of course the reason you go to Philadelphia is the LOVE sculpture and the Liberty Bell.

LOVE is a sculpture by American artist Robert Indiana. It consists of the letters LO (with the O canted sideways) over the letters VE. The image was originally designed as a Christmas card for the Museum of Modern Art in 1964. The original three-dimensional version of LOVE is made of COR-TEN steel and has been on exhibit at the Indianapolis Museum of Art since 1970. The LOVE design has been reproduced in a variety of formats. Likewise, the sculpture has been recreated in multiple versions and a variety of colors, and is now on display around the world.

Free hugs at the LOVE sculpture.

The sun was falling, meaning the temperature was falling, and it was time to catch up with Natalie.
